The Lonely Doll series by Dare Wright
As a child, these books fascinated me. I knew the difference between drawings and photographs. These illustrations were actual photos and therefore they were 'really real'! Edith really went outside. She gathered eggs, found a kitten, went to the beach, tried on lipstick, cut her hair! She inspired my own dolls to travel the world resulting in lost shoes, missing limbs, dirty faces and otherwise have grand adventures.
How wonderful to have had these experiences!
ReplyDeleteI felt a little saddened when I recalled books in my youth.
My Mom gave me 'Little Women' and my Dad gave me 'King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table' Both books, while classics in their own right, did not set me off on adventures.
There was one book only that 'took me away' to share time with a family on a prairie. I found it in our school library. I have had a copy of it with me all my adult life..over 50 years. "On the Banks of Plum Creek" by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
They say you remember your First Love.
I remember the First Book I Loved..and have been faithful to it all my Life.
